I know it's been a while. The full-time work, full-time grad school has me writing and reading more than illustrating, but there may be some sketches this semester. The lighting in this piece is done with a small LED flashlight and a light box.
In May 2009 I graduated summa cum laude from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA in illustration and minors in creative writing and art history. I originally hail from upstate New York, where I enjoy skiing and hiking. You can often find me haunting the bookshelves of the nearest library. I work as a Children's Bookseller at the Odyssey Bookshop, where I delight in reading ARCs. I am currently pursuing my MFA in writing & illustrating for children at Simmons at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. Someday I hope to realize my childhood goal to live in a library.

Wow! Awesome piece, Marika!
Geez, you can hardly even tell that it's 3d! Fantastic job, really great lighting/composing.
Looks night in winter. It gives me an ice cave feeling. Love it!
